Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, what can I say? I picked it to read for the sheer fact, I do not remember ever reading it. I must have been sleeping in 4th grade (all kidding aside I probably was). However, I'm glad I made room to include this book.

If you were living next to me under a rock as one of the few people that has not read this book here is the premise: a little girl name Fern Arable saves the runt of a pig litter from becoming breakfast or dinner. Fern cares for the piglet, who she names Wilbur, like a child. When Wilbur grows too big for the Arable's they send him to the Zuckerman's farm to live. Once again, Wilbur starts looking like dinner, he is saved by a spider named Charlotte. It is through Charlotte's web that Wilbur owes his life.

This books is decidedly about friendships with the focus on Charlotte and Wilbur. For most of the book, I thought Wilbur was taking advantage of their friendship. At the end of the book, Wilbur proved me wrong and the feels come at full force: "Wilbur never forgot Charlotte. Although he loved her children and grandchildren dearly, none of the new spiders ever quite took her place in his heart. She was in a class by herself. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both" (184). It's ok, I cried too at that, and I have a little dark heart.
