Keeping with the Flashback Friday aesthetic, today's post will be dealing with a classic childhood favorite of mine. Recently, I just finished rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. I admit the last time I read this particular book was when I was probably 11 or 12. So of course, I remembered Harry Potter much differently. Instead of blindly reading through and not fully digesting the material, I decided to take a slower approach to see if there were things I missed (foreshadowing, questions left unanswered, and etc.). Oh, there are quite a few. This problem today will be laid out in an a crime report fashion.

Before you proceed there be spoilers ahead. Turn back now before you get into deep!

The Scene and the Problem:
The Photo Album from a Harry Potter Trading Card
Let me introduce the scene, Harry Potter just watched in horror the big turban reveal. If I was him, I would never be able to look at turbans the same way ever again without suspecting that Voldemort lingered underneath it. After being attacked by Professor Quirrell/Voldemort, Harry finds himself waking up in the hospital wing where Dumbledore tells him what happened. After Dumbledore leaves, Hagrid comes in and introduces the readers to this problem and gives Harry a photo album with pictures of his parents inside. J.K. Rowling writes: "Sent owls off ter all yer parents' old school friends, askin' fer photos...knew you didn't have any...d'yeh like it?" (304). Hagrid, at some point during the course of the novel, took the liberty to send owls to Harry's parents school friends asking for pictures. But the real question is who are these "friends" and do we see them in the rest of the series?

The Characteristics of our suspects:
a. They need to still be alive. There goes a lot of my possible candidates. Drats!
b. They would have to be able to access these photographs.
c. They would have to be able to send them to Hagrid during the events of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
d. They must know Hagrid and be at least slightly friendly with him.

The Suspects:

Who are Harry Potter's parents friends? In the story, the readers are only properly introduced to one likely suspect who possibly fits all the requirements: Remus Lupin, one of James Potter's closest friends. The other Marauders could not possibly have sent Hagrid the pictures. Sirius Black being locked up in Azkaban seems like an unlikely candidate unless he took a few pics with him (which I highly doubt), and Peter Pettigrew has been a rat for the last 11 or 12 years and is presumed dead. So those two candidates are out of this equation.

J.K. Rowling could have possibly mentioned Lily's friends in passing, and I was just too distracted with the hotness and tragedy that is Sirius Black to pay attention. But from what I remember (cut me some slack I haven't read the whole series in almost 10 years), her only friend seemed to be Severus Snape in their first few years of school. Towards the end of her Hogwarts years, I think she became more friendly with James's friends.
Wipe that smug look on your face, and explain
this photo album, Rubeus!

Because we are talking about friends, who went to school with Lily and James. Does it include Professors, Hagrid? Tell me, I must know!! I'm going to lose a lot of sleep over this. These are the questions that need to be answered!

Jinkies! Where's Scooby and the Gang to help solve this mystery?!
